Hell for your horses
Caused by an allergic reaction to insect bites (culicoides, midges, small black flies), SUMMER DERMATITIS is very painful for your equine companions. Horses sometimes scratch themselves until they bleed.
How can we relieve them?
One symptom of this phenomenon may be a thinning mane and tail attachments that resemble a crimped bouquet.
The incidence, causes, and presence of summer dermatitis are very difficult to determine. Prevention is recommended starting in February to avoid this painful problem.
What to do if the horse is in distress
Apply a green clay poultice for external care, which will provide significant relief. Its antiseptic properties will aid healing, and the poultice will protect against any bites.
Before applying the poultice, you can also lightly apply a small amount of leave-in clay shampoo.
This product has already proven its effectiveness for all skin itching problems in horses, cattle, and dogs.
Another highly effective product in our range is Green Clay Soap. Rub the soap onto the affected areas, rinse quickly, allow to dry, and apply the clay poultice.
It is important to consider the severity of the case: Different approaches can be taken. Sometimes, relief and medication prescribed by your veterinarian will be necessary.
Prevention and nutritional alternatives are often very helpful in resolving this problem.
For the prevention of bites
Applying a green clay poultice, especially to strategic areas, is probably the best natural protection, long-lasting and easiest to apply.
What’s more, clay will not only provide relief, it will also protect sensitive areas.
